Expert Committee
The Expert Committee (CES) on “Biotechnologies” is tasked with:
- assessing the health risks associated with genetically modified organisms (GMOs) and with food and feed containing or consisting of GMOs;
- assessing the environmental risks associated with all biotechnological applications in the open environment involving plants, animals (including sterile insects) or micro-organisms;
- assessing the environmental risks associated with the use of human and veterinary medicinal products containing GMOs;
- assessing the health risks associated with food enzymes intended for human consumption;
- undertaking expert appraisals on fundamental issues relating to the risks to human, animal or environmental health associated with biotechnologies.
